A downloadable game for macOS

This is a short game demo that I have created in the span of two weeks, which is set in Africa.

Concept

This game concept focuses on a particular indigenous tribe in Africa. Since there are a thousand of different cultures and traditions in Africa, I had to research the four main regions being the north, south, east and west of Africa. This informed me about the setting and the type of people that the game should focus on. I chose to represent the Huila province in Angola and the Mumuila tribe. I made this game to address the issue that black people don't get enough representation in video game compared to other races. This also serves to address the issue of Black representation being too westernised.

Goal

There is no particular goal in the game. All you do is explore the environment and enjoy the music. I didn't have much time to add in some proper gameplay other than just wandering about.

Production

Video 1

This is me making the character using Blender--a free, open-source 3D modelling software. I downloaded a free character model, adjusted the body shape a bit and added clothes, shoes, and hair. Next, I downloaded some free animations from Mixamo (a website that houses tons of free animations to use for games). These character animations came out a bit weird so I had to do weight painting to smooth out the movements.

Video 2

This is me importing the animations into Unreal Engine.

Video 3

This is me implementing the animations into Unreal Engine.

Video 4

This is me making the African environment and adding in assets that I downloaded from the internet.  I also used the foliage paint tool to add in the grass and paint in different textures for the land.

Video 5

The finished game.
